Children are an important part of the worship experience here at St. John’s. We incorporate our young believers into the total life and mission of the church so they will be nurtured into a growing relationship with God. We are serious about raising the next generation of God’s people.
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Preschool: Our nursery begins with ages newborn to three years. Our preschool children are invited to come and hear stories about Jesus and the Bible. The lessons are interactive with hands-on learning styles. Your children will cherish our loving and caring teachers. Preschool classes are on the first floor in Rooms 144, 145.
Elementary: We have an exciting Sunday School program launched September 9, 2007. The third floor of the Education Building has been transformed into a beautiful garden environment with each room uniquely designed to share the Good News in a different way. We are guiding young imaginations and teach the Bible in ways kids can enjoy: through computers, theater, art, music, even cooking. For grades K4 through 5th grade Sunday School starts at 9:15 a.m. on the third floor of the Education Building. Look for shepherds who will help you find your way.
CHILDREN AND WORSHIP
Children are invited to join their families when Holy Communion is celebrated. (Those in Children's Church are brought into the Sanctuary at the appropriate time to participate in the sacrament.) Sharing With the Children is held during Sunday Services. Children of all ages are invited to join our leader at the front for this special time.
Children’s Church is conducted during the later portion of the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Children 4 through second grade may leave the sanctuary immediately following Sharing with the Children and follow a teacher to the third floor of the Education Building. Children’s Worship Bulletins (age appropriate) are available on Sunday mornings at the Sanctuary Entrances. Included are Biblical word games, crossword puzzles and other activities.... and crayons.
A nursery is provided on the first floor of the Education Area for infants and toddlers and staffed by a paid and experienced person. A greeter or an usher will be happy to direct you. Pagers are furnished to parents.
CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER
St. John's serves a much-needed community service by providing education and child care to Anderson's smallest children. The church's certified Day Care Center takes children ages three months through four years old. Small classes and a caring staff assure children are safe and nurtured. Daycare hours are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and its facilities include the bottom floor of the Education Building and a refurbished white house across the parking lot . The director is Brenda Strickland, and she can be contacted at 864-224-2837.
CHILDREN'S AND YOUTH BASKETBALL
St. John's has a full-sized basketball court and a long tradition of fair competition. Members are invited to take part in the program.
