— Stephen Vickery, Business Manager

As we begin our new year celebrating the fact that our sanctuary has served our worshipping family for one hundred years I want to keep everyone informed of the progress we are making in maintaining our campus:

1.The Family Activity Center is now sporting the new colors for the trim. The final trim at the top of the center will be painted later this spring when we will have access to a lift to raise the painters to the top of the building.
2.The Clothes Closet now has a complete heating and air system. The A/C unit was installed in January.
3.The new CDC After School building now has a new roof.
4.The entrance to the Fellowship Hall has been repaired and painted. Over the course of 25 years, the wood beams had started to rot. The trim work has been replaced and sealed.
5.The lights on the top of the Family Activity Center have been replaced and will now provide lighting for the safety of our members.
6.The Boiler Room vent on the River Street side of the sanctuary now has a cover to prevent the boiler room from flooding during heavy rains.
7.Due to the generosity of one of our members, we purchased the piece of land beside the Wesley Gardens. The land is located on the River Street side beside the Clothes Closet.
8.One of the heat pumps located at the front of the Family Activity Center was stolen in February and had to be replaced with a more energy efficient unit.
9.Heat Pump cages have been installed on both the Clothes Closet and Family Activity Center units to prevent theft of the units.
10.We have begun painting and repairing the trim work on the Osteen Building.
11.Doors were repaired at the CDC Sheffield Center to provide safety for the children.
12.The painting around the parlor and leading to the chapel is being completed.

September facilities update - tiles and trees

We continue to work on the old Scout Hut in preparing it for the new expansion of the St. Johns CDC. The building had to be treated for termites, floors in all the rooms had to be replaced with new tile, a new heat pump and enlarged duct work had to be installed and the complete interior of the building was repainted. This will provide a fresh and bright facility for the young CDC members.

The heat pump on the fourth and third floors of the Education building succumbed to the intense heat of the summer this year. The third floor unit was repaired and hopefully will provide us with several additional years of service. The fourth floor unit was restarted but is living on its last leg of life. This unit will have to be replaced this fall.

Notice the new floors in the Parlor Restrooms. The old floors were faded and stained from years of use.

The beautiful trees in front of the Clothes Closet took a beating this summer. One of the trees was blown down by the high winds and the second tree will have to be removed later this month.

We are in the process of replacing and upgrading the roof on the Gym. This roof has lasted many years past its life and the new roof will hopefully provide us with a dry and safe building for many years to come.

Due to the theft of copper in our area we have had to install heat pump cages over the outside ground level heat pumps for the church sanctuary.

We wish to thank you for your continued support for the church and for the new Second Century Campaign in which we will provide our members with a beautiful campus in which to visit and worship.

I am always very grateful for the generosity of so many in making it possible for us to do this work. I have been asked to get a suggestion box and place it on the table in the Atrium. This will be done as soon as possible. However, I am always open to useful suggestions. Please feel free to contact me at the Church Office.

• The restrooms by the parlor have been updated with new tile floors. The old flooring had to be replaced because of water damage.
• The tree that fell on the clothes closet has been removed and work is now beginning on the repairs to the clothes closet.
• The old Crisis Ministry Building is in the last stages of remodeling for the expansion of our Child Development Center and their after school program.
• The replacement of the roof at the gym is now well under way. The planning and design will be completed soon and the work should actually begin in September.
• You may notice that we have a 40 foot container behind the gym. We are using it for temporary storage as we remodel the new Child Development Center and start cleaning out the old Everlasting Light building.
• The Second Century campaign is well under way. We are having a very generous outpouring of support by your pledges and contributions.
• Due to the theft in our area of copper from outside heat pumps, we have now added the protection cages to all our sanctuary heat pumps.
• Finally, we have repaired and upgraded all emergency exit and fire suppression and alert systems on our campus.
